One of Berlin’s true historical imprints and important part representing some of the painful past is under demolition.The East Side Gallery, which carries an important legacy of the east Berlin wall, by exposing the most iconic murals of that time, is under demolition threat from construction companies. The  construction businesses are aiming to build new luxury buildings, that are supposedly going to be revolutionary for Berlin, tall and narrow,aiming to save as much space as possible and offering panoramic views of the Berlin city.

In responde to the outrages news, hundreds of  people decided to organize protests and to stall the continuation of the construction plan. Lot’s of protesters carried banners and signs reading “Does culture no longer have any value?”

The East Side Gallery is part of tourist books and pamphlets, advertised as a cultural place and a must see spot in Berlin.  The murals host  the work of 120 international artist.
By Friday 1st, 30,000 people had put their signatures on a petition on change.org in support of the preservation of the wall.
The famous actor with german roots David Hasselhoff stands behind the protest as well and strongly disapproved the plans for demolishing the historical piece for luxury building homes. He has also joined a campaign for keeping the last standing pieces of the wall.
Many protesters say it is a shame to demolish a piece of history that represents freedom, culture, love and even death.
